Tôi đọc lời thề Hipporcrates lâu rồi. Hôm nay tham gia diễn đàn mới có dịp lục lại xem. Tôi nghĩ đọc nó dù sau cũng có ích, nên post lên chúng ta cùng tham khảo.
The Hippocratic Oath
"I swear by Apollo the physician, by Asklepios, Hygeia and Panacea and all the gods and goddesses, and call on them to witness this my oath and covenant, which I will keep to the best of my ability and judgement: I will honour the man who teaches me this art as my own parents; I will share my living with him and provide for him in need; I will treat his children as my own brothers and teach them this art, should they wish to learn it, without charge or stipulation; I will guide, teach and otherwise instruct my own sons and those of my teacher, and students bound by covenant and oath to medical law, but no one else. I will prescribe treatment to the best of my ability and judgement to help the sick and never for a harmful or illicit purpose. I will not administer a poisonous drug, even if asked, nor will I suggest it; nor will I give any woman a pessary to induce abortion. I will be pure and godfearing in my life and my work. I will not operate, even on patients with stone, leaving this to specialists in such work. I will enter the houses I visit in order to help the sick, and will not intentionally do harm or act corruptly, especially through sexual misconduct with women or men, whether free or enslaved. Whatever I may see or learn about people in the course of my work or in my private life which should not be disclosed I will keep to myself and treat in complete confidence. If I keep this oath and never break it, may my life and work be honoured by all men for ever; but if I depart from my oath or break it, may the reverse be my lot."

"Je jure par Apollon , médecin, par Esculape, par Hygie et Panacée, par tous les dieux et toutes les déesses, les prenant à témoin que je remplirai, suivant mes forces et ma capacité, le serment et l'engagement suivants : Je mettrai mon maître de médecine au même rang que les auteurs de mes jours, je partagerai avec lui mon avoir, et, le cas échéant, je pourvoirai à ses besoins ; je tiendrai ses enfants pour des frères, et, s'ils désirent apprendre la médecine, je la leur enseignerai sans salaire ni engagement. Je ferai part des préceptes, des leçons orales et du reste de l'enseignement à mes fils, à ceux de mon maître, et aux disciples liés par un engagement et un serment suivant la loi médicale , mais à nul autre. Je dirigerai le régime des malades à leur avantage. suivant mes forces et mon jugement, et je m'abstiendrai de tout mal et de toute injustice. Je ne remettrai à personne du poison , si on m'en demande, ni ne prendrai l'initiative d'une pareille suggestion ; semblablement, je ne remettrai à aucune femme un pessaire abortif. Je passerai ma vie et j'exercerai mon art dans l'innocence et la pureté. Je ne pratiquerai pas l'opération de la taille, je la laisserai aux gens qui s'en occupent. Dans quelque maisons que j'entre, j'y entrerai pour l'utilité des malades, me préservant de tout méfait volontaire et corrupteur, et surtout de la séduction des femmes et des garçons, libres ou esclaves. Quoi que je voie ou entende dans la société pendant l'exercice ou même hors de l'exercice de ma profession, je tairai ce qui n'a jamais besoin d'être divulgué, regardant la discrétion comme un devoir en pareil cas. Si je remplis ce serment sans l'enfreindre, qu'il me soit donné de jouir heureusement de la vie et de ma profession, honoré à jamais parmi les hommes ; si je le viole et que je me parjure, puissé-je avoir un sort contraire!"
